ABOUT

Presentazioni, conferenze, dibattiti, spettacoli e installazioni:

Trasformatorio is an international laboratory focusing on research related to site-specific performance. It’s objective is to integrate the practice of the hacklab with the research over performative arts and sustainability and embrace the place is hosted in.

Trasformatorio had six editions. Two in Montalbano Elicona (ME), a medieval village in the Sicilian region of Nebrodi mountains, 900 meters above sea level, a little-known area rich of history and natural beauty. Another edition has been hosted in 2017 in Scaletta Zanclea a village hanging over the strait of Messina. In 2018 we organised the forth edition in Giampilieri, a village that is part of the city of Messina metropolitan area. Later we moved into the air because of COVID (2020) with a radio community (radioantidoto.org) and to the mountains of Liguria with 2021 edition in Cosio d’Arroscia.

At the present time trasformatorio is a foundation based in Amsterdam.

This laboratory also becomes a driver for social innovation capturing the energies of the place and allowing many stories and processes to emerge.

Locations

The laboratory is held within the territory that explores, in harmony with the human population, the natural one and the architectures that host him.

Investigation
Designing, implementing and disseminating performances that are inclusive and sustainable, through the design of new entities, the revaluation of existing forms, the devising of situations and ways to live performance, in harmony with the natural and human environment that hosts it.

Trasformatorio intends to develop research, production and distribution of performances with innovative technical and artistic contents, envisioning new solutions to integrate sustainable technology in drama and through which viewers are confronted with themselves and the landscape. Shows and performances that can be prepared and delivered in any context, even off the theater and electricity grids. Shows and performances integrate a practice aimed to inclusivity, respecting the environment and human elements that interact with them.

Trasformatorio is reserved to professionals, artists, actors, musicians, designers, architects, set designers, video makers, photographers, students of visual and applied arts, theater studies and all fine arts, coders, hackers and utopian futurists as well.

Workshops and laboratories:

Application and development of personal skills on site-specific performance . This is a research was conducted with the ethic of exchange, responding to the specific environment (= people, history, space) of the site we were in. Includes techniques of observation, mapping, interaction, audience encounter, improvisation, and setup.

Technical research on sustainability; an exploration of tools that can be used for site-specific performances, helping to create a theatrical transformation with the most limited damages to the environment.

Research presentations, discussions, speeches, performances and installations:

The practitioners’ explorations were presented to different audiences, in multiple ways, according to the content, character and state of development of ideas and performance material.

Establishing the basics, gathering food and all other material necessities:

On the locations where Trasformatorio was working and living the existence of the lab is contingent to its ability to communicate with his hosts. This very basic practical activity connected to food, lodging, moving, exploring and describing through exploration. Food worked out as one of the powerful means of ‘mapping’ emotionally the place. It worked as a key aspect for integrating with the local community and as a simple social glue between participants.
